After a period of illness at Easter 2013, I strolled though Kings Park, a beautiful botanical park in Perth, and just across the road from where I live. The early morning mists were still lingering and sun’s rays pierced the canopy to reveal this snippet amongst the foliage. Though not a person of religious nature, I sensed something prophetic about the scene.
The Meal
Oils on stretched canvas, 61 x 122 cm (24 x 48 inches) - located Perth, Western Australia.
A meal shared with my partner (artist Irina Korotkow) and son (Kim) in our old flat/studio above the Post Office (now a pizza shop) in Dulwich Hill, Sydney. I tried to capture personal memories of the room, the camaraderie and atmosphere.
Balladonia Track
Oils on stretched canvas, 61 x 122 cm (24 x 48 inches) - located Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.
The track across land from Kalgoorlie to Balladonia should have taken us 7 hours, but took 3 days and we were dangerously short of water when we made the Roadhouse. Intense heat, above the ankle deep bulldust and engine troubles with one of the group. For safety reasons the group sticks together and nurses the troubled vehicle through.

They say that you should paint what you know. Well I am too uncomfortably familiar with fire in the bush and, in this painting, attempt to show its destructive and fearful nature. Yet, also, I'm searching for a Phoenix quality - with fire comes rebirth.

This is a study of space. A vast openness of uninterrupted space in which a group; a conglomerate of people, almost huddle. Yet, within the huddle personal space, body language suggest sub plots and innuendos.
Based on sketches I did at a coach stop - to me, though almost minimalistic, this canvas is rich in content.
